The first part of Winter Birds reminded me of Gilead, lots of thoughts, looking back, getting the picture of the main character a little bit at a time. About half-way through the book, the pace picked up and there was a little more action--not much, though, as the main character is an year-old woman. The end of the book lifted my spirits/5.
